The second Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season is upon us, as the best players in the world travel to Roland Garros for the 2024 French Open.
In 2023 it was Novak Djokovic who came out on top in the Men's tournament with a straight sets victory over Casper Ruud, while in the Women's tournament it was Iga Swiatek who claimed a three-set victory over Karolina Muchova for her third grand slam title.

Carlos Alcaraz - (+200)
Alcaraz is seen by many as the future oft he sport, but since his win last year at Wimbledon his form has suffered and the Spaniard has had many people questioning if he will ever meet his potential.
Many tennis fans believe that as soon as Nadal retires, the Spanish torch will be passed to Alcaraz. That process might have already started a while ago, but the 21-year-old is still searching for his first French Open title despite having competed four times in the tournament before..
Alcaraz has two already won Grand Slam titles in his young career, with wins at the 2022 US Open and 2023 Wimbledon but his best outing at Roland Garros came last year when he reached the semi-final.
From 2022 to 2023, he has a record of 40-7 in clay matches and he is getting better, but he has just one title since his last Grand Slam victory and his health is a bit of a concern currently too. In 19 games this season he has gone 15-4, including going 2-2 in four games on clay.
Unfortunately, he’s been dealing with an arm injury, which forced him to miss Monte Carlo and Barcelona but he did win Indian Wells last month. By the time of the French Open, Alcaraz should be fine to play, but his health is something worth monitoring and at +200 there isn't great value in backing him currently.

Novak Djokovic - (+275)
Novak Djokovic will be in Paris looking to defend his Roland Garros title on the clay, having won two of the last three editions of the tournament as part of his sensational 24 Grand Slam career total.
Djokovic has only played in two tournaments since losing to Sinner in four sets in the Australian Open semi-final. He suffered a shocking upset to Luca Nardi in the Indian Wells Open, and then Casper Ruud most recently defeated Djokovic in three sets.
Although Djokovic has been out of form as of late, he is still No. 1 in the ATP world rankings. Two poor tournaments from Djokovic do not necessarily equate to getting too old to keep pace with younger players, but it does make you question the form coming into the tournament.
The Serbian will be preparing himself ahead of the tournament, as well as Wimbledon and the Olympic games in Paris this summer, so he has great motivation to find his form and get back to winning ways.
Djokovic owns a record of 45-10 over his last 55 matches on the clay and there is nobody who has ever won more big tournaments in the history of the sport. It's not often in recent times that there's been good odds for him to get the victory, so back him at +275 to begin his run towards a huge summer.
Women's French Open 2024 favorites

Iga Swiatek - (-130)
Swiatek is making a name for herself on clay courts and is currently resembling an early Rafael Nadal, the best clay player of all time on the men’s side.
Despite being only 22 years old, Swiatek is already on track to being the best women’s clay surface player in the Open era with three French Open victories already. The No. 1 ranked player on the WTA Tour has a career record of 63-8 in clay matches since starting 2019.
From 2022 to 2023, Swiatek has lost just 10 sets while winning 72 on clay and is simply dominating, which is exactly why she is the clear favorite to be successful here again. Her 2023 tournament win only saw her drop one set, and that came in the final.
There is a strong chance that Swiatek will build on her legacy as a clay specialist this year, and at -130 there is tremendous value in it too. She's the obvious and best pick.
Aryna Sabalenka - (+500)
Sabalenka is the undisputed No. 2 player in the WTA Tour rankings, and her rivalry with Swiatek is the biggest in women's tennis right now.
The 25-year-old Belarusian won the second major championship of her career this past January in Australia, adding to her maiden title in 2023 in the same tournament. Her best appearance in France came last year as she reached the semi-final, having never made it past the third-round in six previous attempts. However, since 2022, Sabalenka owns a record of 18-8 in 18 clay tournaments.
Swiatek has defeated Sabalenka in six of nine matches and most definitely has the advantage on clay courts. Additionally, Swiatek has won 15 sets to Sabalenka’s seven, so if it comes down to these two, the native of Poland will likely have the upper hand.
But should Swiatek suffer a shock defeat, then Sabalenka is the clear and obvious alternative to find success.
