Oakland Athletics season so far

Oakland have had an absolutely horrible season so far, and currently sit with the fourth-worst record in the entire MLB at 37-61.

The season began with a horrible showing as they lost seven of their opening eight games, with their only success coming against the Cleveland Guardians. After that run however they managed to claim three wins in a row and five in their next six, before eight more defeats in 11 games. That left them with a record of 9-16, before they went on their best run of the season to date with eight wins in their next nine including five in a row.

In May they only managed six more wins following the end of that run, and they lost 19 times including a stinking run of eight in a row including four against the Houston Astros and three against the Kansas City Royals. They snapped that streak by beating the Rockies, but then lost six of their final nine.

Somehow though, June got even worse as they won just seven games in the month and went on a horrifying nine-game losing streak, before claiming three wins in four games against the Royals and Twins. But immediately after that they lost seven of their final eight to end with a record of 7-20.

So far in July they've been in some good form with three wins against the Angels helping them to a 7-5 record so far, giving them an overall record 37-61.

Los Angeles Angels season so far

Los Angeles have had a really poor season so far and are desperate to find a way to get back to winning ways after the recent All-Star break.

They started their season with back-to-back defeats to the Baltimore Orioles before four wins on the bounce including three over the Giants. However, that was followed up by a horrible run of just seven wins in their next 24 games to see them end April with a poor record of 11-19.

In May things didn’t get much better for Los Angeles, starting off with four defeats in five. Their only victory came in a brilliant 6-0 performance against the Cleveland Guardians. After that, they claimed consecutive wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates, before once again falling to a run of five defeats in six. The Angels got some form back with six wins in their next nine, beating the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros twice each, before ending the month with six defeats in seven to end with an overall record of 21-36.

The form picked up in June however as they earned their first winning record for a calendar month of the season, picking up 15 wins. They beat the San Diego Padres in three straight games and then managed to end the month with a run of six consecutive victories in their final seven games.

After losing their first four games in July, they earned a win over the Chicago Cubs before losing three-in-a-row once more. Since then though they have found form and won four of their last five games, and come into this game with an overall record of 41-55.

MLB Picks: Los Angeles Angels to win

Neither team have been particularly convincing so far this season but one team has been far worse than the other.

The Athletics currently rank joint-24th for runs scored this season (390), while they rank 28th for their batting percentage (.227) and 28th for their on-base percentage also (.298). The Angels on the other hand actually rank even lower for runs scored with just 385, but are slightly better with their betting average (.235) and on-base percentage (.303).

LA have lost their last six games against the Athletics, which could certainly throw some people off the scent of a win, but the Angels will hope that the short reset from the All-Star break this week will help them snap that streak.

Both teams are 5-5 in their last ten games so the form is decent from both, but back the team who has performed better over the course of the season to come out on top for a win.
