The third golf major of 2024 is upon us as the US Open 2024 finally reaches us at the halfway point of the year.
156 of the very best golf players in the world will go toe-to-toe over 72 holes between June 13-16 2024, to see who can accumulate the best score and go down in history, with the event taking place in North Carolina's Pinehurst Resort after Wyndham Clark's 2023 victory.

Scottie Scheffler - (+400)
The World Number one golfer and most in-form player on the planet is the favorite to win this tournament, as usual. In fact, he has been the favorite for all three majors this season, including when he won The Masters for a second time.
His recent run of four wins in five starts starts can't be overstated, and he continues to improve and widen the gap between the top players in the world. According to the latest World Golf Rankings, the superstar leads by a wide margin with 695.52 points and his form suggests he might move even further ahead.
His PGA Championship last month wasn't memorable for his on-course performances, but instead for being arrested - although all charges were later dropped.
The 27-year-old native of Dallas, TX, has won four out of the 12 tournaments he’s entered in 2024, giving him an unprecedented 33.3% win rate for the calendar year.
Additionally, Scheffler’s previous 11 entries in 12 starts have resulted in a top-10 finish! This includes eight top-5 showings and T2 in his most recent tournament at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.
The value isn't the best, but if you believe the best player will be the one who wins the tournament then he is the man to back.

Rory McIlroy - (+1100)
Rory's first of four major championship victories came at the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional as a 21-year-old, where he smoked everyone by winning with an eight-shot lead.
He's been in contention each of the last three years, finishing T7 in 2021, T5 in 2022 and as runner-up in 2023, but hasn't been able to seal the deal and his curse in majors tournaments has continued. McIlroy last won a major tournament way back in 2014, which was his fourth title.
Since winning the PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2014, despite all the success he’s had aside from majors, including FedEx Cup titles, it just hasn't clicked for the Northern Irishman. But his form is good in 2024 and his recent win at Wells Fargo last month should stand him in good stead.
McIlroy is in top form with the US Open approaching. He isn’t quite as hot as Scheffler but he’s regaining his confidence and this is a tournament he hasn't won since way back in 2011, meaning he'll be hungrier than ever.
The aforementioned victory at Wells Fargo was McIlroy’s first tournament win since the 2023 Scottish Open, which was part of a stretch that saw McIlroy finish in the top 10 in 10 events. This could be the perfect time for him to bring it full circle and end his barren run.
Xander Schauffele - (+1200)
Xander Schauffele was once known as the best player on the PGA Tour to have not won a major but last month at the PGA Championship he claimed his first win, winning the tournament by one shot ahead of Bryson De Chambeau after a stellar performance.
That took him to No.2 in the official World Golf Rankings, and his confidence will now be sky-high coming into this tournament after such a great showing last time out.
Schauffele tied for 10th in last year's U.S. Open in another good performance, and he has just one career finish outside of the top 10 (T-14 in 2022) in seven appearances in the event. His form here is good, it suits his game and he'll know that he may not have a better chance of success than in 2024.
After finishing inside the Top 10 at The Masters too, he's a genuine threat to the title that Wyndham Clark won last year and could legitimately make it two wins from two.
At +1200 you can argue that there is no better value in the field than the California native, considering his recent win and his record in this tournament. He is most certainly worth a look at backing, although it won't be easy.
Scheffler is the favorite but he can't win everything and McIlroy's curse is a real thing. This might be the best place to put your money if you want to back a tournament winner.
