Boston Bruins vs Montreal Canadiens NHL Winter Classic Prediction
Boston Bruins: In a Atlantic Division fight for first
In what is a rather bizarre situation, the top five teams in the Atlantic Division are all separated by just one point. The surprising Florida Panthers lead the way with 46 points, followed by Montreal in second at 45, and Boston holding down third with 44 points. The Bruins earned at least one point during ten of their 14 games in December as they posted a 7-4-3 record last month. That said, Boston has stumbled some recently as they dropped home games against St. Louis (2-0) and Buffalo (6-3) plus a 3-1 contest in Ottawa. Stopping their mini skid, the Bruins crushed the Senators during a fight-filled 7-3 win at home on Tuesday.
Montreal Canadiens: Without Carey Price the Habs have not been right
Backed by plenty of offense, and solid goaltending, Montreal sprinted out of the starting gate with an 18-4-3 record through the first two months of the season. However, after losing Carey Price, plus RW Brendan Gallagher who had posted 19 points in 22 games, the Canadiens crashed in December with a dismal 3-10-0 record. Offense and defense have both been issues for the Habs as they were outscored by a 41-23 margin during their 13 games to close out 2015. Coming out of the Christmas break Montreal lost 3-1 in Washington, posted a 4-3 (SO) win in Tampa Bay and then lost 3-1 in Florida in their last match on Tuesday.
Montreal vs Boston NHL Winter Classic Call: Tuukka Rask (14-9-3 GAA 2.41) faces Mike Condon (10-9-3 GAA 2.48) in the netminding matchup today. Rask has been hot as he went 6-2-2 with a 1.54 GAA and two shutouts in December. Montreal went 2-9-0 last month as Condon allowed 27 goals during his eleven appearances. Montreal gets Gallagher back for this contest while Boston will be without their fourth leading scorer Brad Marchand who was suspended for three games after an illegal hit on Ottawa's Mark Borowiecki in Tuesday's match against the Senators. We are backing Boston with a five unit wager on the money line price posted at the BetOnline.ag sportsbook.
