Bovada Horse Racing Futures: UK 2000 And 1000 Guineas Odds
Horse Future Bets in the UK
While the two big races for three-year-olds are run at 1 1/4 miles for the Kentucky Derby, and 1 1/8 miles for the Kentucky Oaks, both on the dirt surface, the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas are both run at slightly over one mile in a straight run on the turf. Both of the UK races carry a total purse of 500,000 British pounds.
UK 2000 Guineas Future Bets
Since we last checked in on the Bovada future odds in early December, there has been little change in terms of the favorites for the 2000 Guineas, although there has been some movement in the odds for some of the longer shots on the board.
Continuing as co-favorites at odds of 7-1 are Saxon Warrior and Gustav Klimt. A Japan-bred colt for trainer Aiden O'Brien, Saxon Warrior has yet to have a blemish on his racing record, having won his maiden event, then a Group 2 stakes, and then a Group 1 Stakes, all run at one mile. With each effort, the competition has got a little closer to beating him, so it will be interesting to see what happens when he makes his three-year-old debut. He was the heavy favorite in his last two wins at well below 7-1, and another win might see his odds plunge before we get to the first weekend in May, so a bet right now could provide exceptional value.
Gustav Klimt was also a narrow winner of his last, his second consecutive win in three lifetime starts. He showed a lot of talent after being shuffled back and having to rally in the final furlong last time out in a Group 2 event at Newmarket last July, but he hasn't raced since, and he'll need to come back this spring and show he's retained that form and can carry it for a full mile, something he has not yet tried.
He's also from the stable of Aiden O'Brien, as is the third choice in the Bovada futures in the form of US Navy Flag at 8-1. Compared to the first two, he's a highly experienced veteran, with a remarkable 10 races to his name already in his young career. It took him awhile to find his best stride, but he has won four of his last six, including his last three in a row. He was a clear winner last time out racing seven furlongs in a Group 1 race at Newmarket in October, clearing the field by 2 1/2 lengths as the 5-1 second choice in the betting.
UK 1000 Guineas Future Bets
Turning to the fillies, it's no surprise to see trainer O'Brien has the top choice there as well, with Clemmie sitting at 5-2, down slightly from the 3-1 posting in early December. She's another that has won three straight, the last a Group 1 at Newmarket in late September. All of her races have been at six furlongs so she's another that has to show she can get the extra quarter-mile she'll be asked to go on the 1000 Guineas.
One that has tried a mile is Happily, the second choice at 5-1. That effort came when she shipped to California to try the 2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last November. Whether it was the travel or the hard Del Mar turf surface that bothered her, she was a disappointment in her US debut, running last as the favorite of 14. She needs a bounce-back effort before she warrants an extra look at those odds.
Coming back from the US with a much better result in the same race, September is at 9-1 and rounds out the top three. Although winless in her last four, she has been in the money in each of those and comes with no question as to being able to get the distance. In the BC Juvenile Fillies, she broke very slow and then came flying late, moving from 13th place to third in the last two furlongs, and missing the win by less than two lengths. At this point, she seems a much stronger value play than either of the first two.
