Breeders' Cup Turf Contenders
Now that you know where to bet the Breeders’ Cup Turf, it is time to start handicapping the race.
Breeders' Cup Turf Favorite
#13 Tarnawa, the defending champion, has held her form against the top horses in the world this year. Though she has been second in her last two races, she was close and that level of class typically holds well at the Breeders’ Cup.
The initial question about Tarnawa was the pace. She still benefits from having as much as possible, but the scratches help her. The first two horses in off the AE list, #15 Bolshoi Ballet and #16 Channel Maker, should add to the pace that was originally just #5 Tribhuvan and #6 Acclimate. This means, if the track is playing fairly, she should get a fair shot to repeat.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Value Horses
#7 Walton Street is the most interesting bet in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. he won the Canadian International (G1) as convincingly as a Breeders’ Cup-bound horse should, and before that he has strong form through horses like the Arc winner Torquator Tasso. With tactical speed, he should get the jump on the real closers, and on his best will be tough to catch.
#12 Teona should also be a square price, and should be able to carve out a good field. She does her better work over the good ground, and she will certainly get firmer going at Del Mar. She comes in off of a victory against older horses in the Prix Vermeille (G1) at Longchamp, and her tactical speed should be an asset.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Exotics Horses
In addition to Tarnawa, the extra speed drawn in off the also-eligible list should help a few other closers who belong in exotics as well.
#11 Gufo has tables to turn on #1 Rockemperor last out, but should be able to do so with the speed drawn in, plus the fact that Rockemperor is drawn all the way down on the fence. Gufo is well proven at a mile and a half and over firm turf, and his race in the Sword Dancer was good enough to make him a contender if he runs back to it.
#9 Sisfahan, winner of the German Derby, also has good form through Arc winner Torquator Tasso, who he ran only a length behind in the Grosser Preis von Baden (G1). Though he did not run quite as well in the Preis von Europa next out, if he bounces back, he will be rolling into the picture late at a great price.
