Dodgers Favored to win the 2021 World Series
- The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are the +275 favorite in the 2021 MLB World Series picks
- It's been over two decades since a defending World Series champion repeated
- The Dodgers have never won the World Series in successive seasons
Even though it looks as though the Los Angeles Dodgers may be required to travel a hard road to get there, oddsmakers still them as the team to beat in the MLB World Series picks for the upcoming 2021 postseason. The Dodgers have been seeking to catch the San Francisco Giants for the National League West Division crown throughout the MLB season but it appears a very real possibility that they will come up short in that pursuit.
Rivals for more than 130 years, the @Dodgers & @SFGiants are in the midst of one of the greatest divisional races in the Wild Card Era.

Regardless, LA has already locked in a playoff berth, albeit what it may turn out to be is one of two NL Wild Card placings. That would put the Dodgers in the one-and-done Wild Card games that open the MLB postseason.
Team | |||
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles Dodgers | +275 | +320 | +320 |
Houston Astros | +400 | +550 | +550 |
Milwaukee Brewers | +500 | +650 | +650 |
San Francisco Giants | +500 | +475 | +475 |
Chicago White Sox | +700 | +700 | +700 |
Tampa Bay Rays | +700 | +600 | +600 |
It would a dangerous route to take but certainly not a journey that can't be completed. Seven teams have won the World Series as a Wild Card playoff entry. The most recent was the 2019 Washington Nationals, who knocked off the Dodgers in the playoffs en route to their title.
Dodgers The Pick Of World Series Contenders
It's easy to comprehend why oddsmakers are so bullish on the chances of the Dodgers repeating, even though no team has done so since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998-2000. They've been the favorite in MLB World Series futures all season long.
LA's lineup includes three MVPs (Mookie Betts, Clay Bellinger, Clayton Kershaw) and three Cy Young Award winners (Max Scherzer, David Price, Kershaw). In a best-of-seven series, when LA can line up Scherzer, Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and Julio Urias as a starting rotation, it will take some kind of team to beat them.

That's why the Dodgers being in the Wild Card game could be the best hope for all the other teams. If they have an off day and lose that game, suddenly, the World Series picks are a wide-open race.
Giants Offer Tremendous Value
It isn't often that you can get a price in the World Series odds on the team that's leading the MLB in wins. That will be the Giants if they hold off the Dodgers and win the NL West. Considering that they've owned at least a share of the division lead every day since May 31, that would seem likely.

The Giants have won the World Series three times over the past 11 years. The old guard from those championship teams, guys like Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey, and Brandon Belt, are showing the new players what it takes to win.
Doubting San Francisco in MLB World Series betting could prove to be a giant mistake.
Betting On Redemption For Astros
The Houston Astros won the 2017 World Series. A later investigation by MLB revealed that they'd used electronic devices to steal signs from other teams. The cheating scandal led to the dismissal of manager AJ Hinch and forever put a taint on their victory.

Many of those same players are suiting up for the Astros team that's posting the second-best record in the American League this season.
Is redemption in the cards for the Astros? And if so, wouldn't it be fitting if they ended up playing the Dodgers, the same team they vanquished in the 2017 World Series?
