Pegasus World Cup Best Bet

The best bet in the Pegasus World Cup is Stronghold. Though he faces older for the first time, he is a consistent horse who has traveled all over and only missed the board once, in the chaos of the Kentucky Derby. He ran a good second in the seven-furlong Malibu (G1), and now he stretches out to 1 ⅛ miles, a distance at which he is a Grade 1 winner. With tactical pace from a good draw, he is well set to show his best.

Pegasus World Cup Favorites

White Abarrio won the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic and looks like he is rounding back into top form. Though he was beaten in his final prep, he still ran earnestly - despite the distance being too short, and a bad start. Now he stretches out to a distance at which he is a Grade 1 winner over this course, and can show tactical speed from a nice draw.

Speed is king at Gulfstream, and Saudi Crown has no shortage of it. Though there are multiple runners in this field who can show some speed, none are truly one-way runners. Saudi Crown did win from a stalking spot last out against softer, but against this class at Gulfstream, especially without another need-to-lead type, trying to steal this could be a smart move indeed.

Pegasus World Cup Exotic Longshots

Crupi is one of those horses where…you know what you’re going to get. It’s probably not going to be a win, but it’s going to be an honest run down the lane and it’s probably going to be enough for a piece. He did exactly that last year in the Pegasus World Cup, coming on for third, and coming off a troubled trip last out his form is good enough to do that again.

Power Squeeze has to deal with a tricky outside gate, but unlike Locked, she’ll be a huge price, enough to consider her for a piece underneath. She has the tactical speed to figure something out from the outside, and her form both at Gulfstream Park and in route races is appealing. On the stretch out from an already-very-good try at a mile last out, we may see the best of Power Squeeze, which could get her a piece.
