Most Likely Formula 1 Winners
Let’s have a look at the 2020 Formula 1 favorites.
Lewis Hamilton (-175)
This is the non-surprise of the century. Lewis Hamilton has six Drivers Championships on his resume, including each of the past three. Now is not the time to doubt him.
Indeed, he isn’t providing the best value. Championship futures that don’t pay out 1-to-1 or better are forever a risk. But he’s the rare favorite who’s worth it. He won 10 of last season’s 21 races and finished worse than third only three times.
Charles Leclerc (+450)
Charles Leclerc is a hit-or-miss favorite.
On the one hand, he ranked fourth in the standings last year, with two first-place victories and a bunch of podium finishes. On the other hand, he has a higher variance in his checkered flags than most heavyweights. In 2019, he finished fifth three times and received a “Did Not Finish” in three other races.
Conservative bettors will see Leclerc as having too much downside. They’re not wrong. At the same time, if he finished fourth amid a rampant bount of inconsistency, imagine what he could do if he turns in a more complete docket this season.
Max Verstappen (+550)
If there is going to be a changing of the guard this season, Max Verstappen is the racer who’s next in line.
The crown jewel of Red Bull’s team is incredibly young, at just 22, and coming off a career year. His three first-place finishes were a personal best, and he came oh-so-close to racking up a few more, snagging a combined six second- and third-place finishes.
Hamilton has put so much distance between himself and the other racers, but Verstappen is perhaps the one best suited to bridge the gap. He has improved his rating each and every year, and if he adds another couple of victories to his tally this season, we could be looking at a new Formula 1 champ.
Valtteri Bottas (+550)
Although Hamilton receives the most attention as Mercedes‘ main attraction, his teammate Valtteri Bottas isn’t that far behind him in the racing pecking order. He collected a combined 10 first- and second-place finishes last year, including three victories.
The issue for Bottas is he’s still prone to the occasional “DNF.” Beyond that, Mercedes tends to prioritize its primary leader in the standings later in the season. He’ll need to pick up a few early-schedule wins to make sure he doesn’t get lost in Hamilton’s shadow.

Best Dark Horse Bet
Daniil Kvyat (+150000)
Don’t look so surprised. Daniil Kvyat is working off the kind of season that could be parlayed into an even better one.
He hasn’t accomplished much since joining the circuit as a teenager and turning in some strong finishes over the first couple of years. But he hovered much closer to podium spots last year and proved to have more stamina behind the wheel than many of his counterparts.
Someone like Carl Sainz (+40000) will be seen as a more likely option, but it is Kvyat who recorded fewer DNFs and more overall podium finishes in 2019.
2020 Drivers Championship Prediction
Most experts will pick Lewis Hamilton to win it all and never look back. Good for them.
We’re going with Max Verstappen. He’s an up and coming superstar, and he showed signs of cracking the championship tier last year.
Never mind the three victories. Or the other three second-place finishes. He failed to place in the top three over his final eight races. That’s bound to change as he gains more experience. If he raises his total victories to five while turning in more second- and third-place showings, he’ll be a real threat to dethrone Hamilton.
BABB 2020 Drivers Championship Prediction: Max Verstappen (+550)
