The Course
This course is historically important for its approach play. There are trees and water hazards on the vast majority of holes, which makes the precision of shots incredibly important. That makes Sawgrass commonly referred to as a 'second shot' golf course.
It's not the longest course, but the hazards mean that there is a right and wrong part of the fairway to be on and that makes shot placement crucial. It means a good start off the tee will go a long way to benefiting the player's approach.
Every par 5 is also relatively reasonable. Three of the four at Sawgrass are listed at less than 540 yards, which means they will be very important to take advantage of.
Top 3 Outright Winner Value bets
Hideki Matsuyama - (+3000)
Coming into this tournament in great form and with a good historical record at this course, Matsuyama is my pick for the crown come to the end of the weekend.
He hasn't missed a cut since 2021 and has two wins and two more top tens in the 2021/22 FedEx Cup season. He has a reputation for his putting being a bit patchy at times, but he's been very strong and has shown considerable improvements in that department, especially since the turn of the year.
Matsuyama has gained strokes on the green in three of his last four starts and ranks in 33rd position on the PGA tour on successful putts inside the ten-foot range.
In seven official appearances at Sawgrass, he has five finishes inside the Top 25. That doesn't include his excellent performance during the 2020 edition of the tournament where he was nine under par with a score of 63 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the event into an early closure.
He should look to find himself back in that zone and push to make history by finally earning a win on one of his favorite courses.
Even this past weekend at Bay Hill, he ended the tournament with a 2-under 70 but because he was out of the running for the title on that occasion it went largely unnoticed.
He's been the best player on the tour so far this season with two victories since the fall, most recently having success at the Sony Open. He's the reigning Masters champion so can't rule him out, especially at +3000.

Brooks Koepka - (+4000)
Another outside bet but after taking a deep dive into his form you can see that this is definitely someone to keep an eye on throughout this tournament this weekend.
Koepka has been gaining an average of 5.3 strokes across the week at the Honda Classic, including 3.3 shots gained in his approach play and we've established how important approach play will be on this course.
After several injuries over the last 18 to 24 months, Koepka finally looks to be fully healthy and he's historically always been in the mix throughout his career at TPC Sawgrass.
He's never quite been in the race for victory, however, but with his current mix of excellent form, great putting history at the course, and his improving all-around game, it's definitely worth taking a punt on him at odds of +4000.

Alex Noren - (+12500)
Swedish golfer Noren hasn't been on the hunt to win a tournament for a little while now, but he's still playing well. Despite a lack of birdies in his recent performance at the Honda Classic; it was just par after par that kept him in the top ten from start to finish.
He'll need to do much better than that here to have a chance of winning, but he's definitely capable.
Odds of +12500 are usually reserved for someone with a much lower ceiling than Noren has and that makes him an attractive outside bet for this weekend. You could arguably make the case for a top ten finish being a better bet, but I'm a believer in going big or going home so back him for the win for a major payday if it comes in.
