Islanders vs Blue Jackets: NHL Puck Betting Advice

New York Islanders: Aiming at a fourth straight win

Putting their 3-2 (OT) and 4-1 losses to Chicago behind them, New York is on a roll as they posted wins over Winnipeg (4-2) Nashville (4-3) and San Jose (6-3) during three games at home last week. The Islanders have had some time to savor their success has they haven’t played since Saturday night. While New York should be brimming with confidence on offence, after scoring 14 goals in three games, one has to think they would like to cut down on the three goals per game average the defense has posted through five games. After being on the shelf with an upper-body injury to begin the season, goaltender Jaroslav Halak is expected to make a second start in net for New York tonight.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Late season run last year hasn’t carried over

Although their playoff hopes were harpooned by a disastrous 6-15-2 start last year, Columbus was on fire down the stretch as they closed the 2014-15 NHL season on a remarkable 15-2 run. Those winning ways, plus the offseason acquisition of two-time Stanley Cup winner Brandon Saad, meant fans of the Blue Jackets were excited about the 2015-16 campaign. However, excitement has turned to despair in Ohio as Columbus has lost their first six games by a combined 30-13 margin. While a 2.16 goals for per game average isn’t a recipe for success – continuing to allow five goals per game will earn the Blue Jackets a place on the sidelines when the National Hockey League playoffs begin in April.

New York vs Columbus NHL Prediction: Battling in what continues to be an improving Eastern Conference, New York has hung with the heavyweights early in the season as they are fourth overall in the standings. It probably goes without saying - but – Columbus is the cellar dweller in the East. The Blue Jackets are going to win at some point but we don’t see it happening tonight.
