- Josh Taylor - (-180)
- Teofimo Lopez - (+150)
Josh 'The Tartan Tornado' Taylor is a skilled boxer with a strong left hook, and he will be looking to use his size and reach advantage to dominate Lopez. Lopez has devastating KO power and speed while his boxing IQ is arguably the best in the division
This is one of the most anticipated fights of the year. With both fighters having a similar record of knock outs, surely we will witness one of them knocked out here.
Taylor is the current WBO World Super Light Weight Champion while Lopez is the former champ with just one defeat on his record.
Lopez is still considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world despite his loss to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. He will be desperate to win back his crown.
Nicknamed ‘The Takeover’, he has since rebounded with a win over Pedro Campa, but he struggled to win a split decision against Sandor Martin in his most recent fight.
Despite his recent struggles, Lopez is still a dangerous fighter and he will be looking to make a statement with a win over Taylor.
The Tartan Tornado is undefeated in his career, but he has not fought since February 2022. His last bout was a controversial split decision win over Jack Catterall in Glasgow. Taylor was cut twice by the left eye, knocked down in the 8th round and deducted one point in the 11th for punching after the bell. Catterall was deducted one point for holding in the 10th.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, turned professional in 2015. He had previously won the Commonwealth super lightweight title. He made a name for himself in 2018 by competing in the World Boxing Super Series light welterweight tournament. He defeated Ryan Martin in the quarter-finals, Ivan Baranchyk in the semi-finals for the IBF title, and Regis Prograis in the finals for the WBA and The Ring belts.
Next, Taylor defeated Jose Ramirez for the WBC and WBO belts. He later beat Catterall but a rematch was never made and Taylor was stripped of multiple belts. He will now look to continue his run as champion in enemy territory.
Taylor is confident that he will knock out Teofimo Lopez in their upcoming fight. He said, "My fight with Teofimo Lopez ends up the same way, except it’s me knocking him out." Taylor is "completely 100% confident that this fight doesn’t go past six to eight rounds".
The fight is set has all the makings of a classic. Both fighters have a lot to prove. Despite Taylor being favorite, this fight is a very tough one to call. It will surely come down to who wants it more on the night. Perhaps picking ‘The Takeover’ by KO is the shrewd bet here when many experts consider this to be an even contest.
If you think Lopez will win in this fashion, you can back him at +450 meaning a $100 bet will return $450
However, if you simply want to back the favorite to win by any method, you can bet on him at -180 meaning you would need to bet $180 to win $100 profit.
