The Pegasus was first run in 2017. It takes its name from a 100-foot-tall statue looming over the Gulfstream Park racetrack, entitled Pegasus and Dragon. In its short history, great modern horses like Gun Runner and Arrogate have won the race. Knicks Go won its fifth edition in 2021, and he returns to try to become the first horse to win the race twice.

#5 Empty Tomb may not have won yet at a mile and an eighth, but he certainly has the stamina to factor for exotics: in seven tries at the distance, he has been either second or third five times. His tactical speed should allow him to carve out a fine trip behind the favorites, especially with expert Gulfstream rider Paco Lopez in the irons.
