- What: 2025 MLB Opening Day
- Who: Seattle Mariners vs. Athletics
- When: Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m.
- Where: T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington
- How to watch: Root Sports
After a long offseason and an exciting spring training, Opening Day is coming this week for Major League Baseball fans and people are understandably pretty fired up. Come Thursday, there's a full schedule of games on the way. This includes a meeting at T-Mobile Park. With that said, the Mariners are among our picks to win on 2025 MLB Opening Day. Will the AL West side come out on top?
In the first game of the season, the Mariners will be hosting the Athletics, who have said goodbye to Oakland. Logan Gilbert is set to take the bump for Opening Day, which makes a ton of sense for this team. When he's at his best, Gilbert is without question one of the best starting pitchers in the game. New manager Dan Wilson will be ready for him to live up to the hype too.
MLB Opening Day odds | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
---|---|---|---|
Mariners to win | -110 | -110 | -110 |
Athletics to win | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Over 7.5 runs | -110 | -110 | -110 |
Under 7.5 runs | -110 | -110 | -110 |
“I was super excited, obviously,” Gilbert told reporters after he was named the Opening Day starter. “A little off-guard. I didn’t want to expect it with Luis (Castillo) being the veteran guy, and I thought he’s completely deserving. We have a bunch of guys on our staff that could be Opening Day starters."
According to the best online sports betting sites, the Mariners hold -110 MLB betting odds to post a win over the Athletics in this one. In the other clubhouse, the Athletics hold +125 odds to pull off an upset win. From our chair, it's going to be tough for the A's to take down Seattle, especially with this being a home game for the Mariners. Yup, we're going with the M's as our pick.

The Yankees should have no issues going up against the Brewers
Elsewhere, the Yankees should have no issues going up against the Brewers. On Thursday afternoon, the stands at Yankee Stadium are going to be packed, as New York is going to be hosting Milwaukee. Last campaign, the Yankees won the AL pennant and they took on the Dodgers in the World Series. Unfortunately, they weren't able to capture the glory.
This season, though, Aaron Boone is confident that his players can take the next step. There are some changes, though, as Juan Soto left in free agency to sign with the New York Mets, while Gerrit Cole is going to be out for the season due to Tommy John Surgery. Despite that, Aaron Judge will be in the MVP mix once again, while Carlos Rodon, the Game 1 starter, will be ready to be at his best too.

“I feel really good about giving him the ball,” Boone said about Rodon officially being named the Opening Day starter for the Yankees against the Brewers. “He’s in the right frame of mind and throwing the ball well. I’m excited to do it, and then at the end of the day, it’s just the first.”
For this matchup with Milwaukee, the Yankees hold -110 odds to take down the Brewers per the best MLB betting sites. Milwaukee is checking in at +125. With this also being a home game for the Yankees and Roon ready to start the season hot, we think that the Yankees will come out on top. It will be interesting to see if that happens or not, but we're going with the Bronx Bombers as our pick.
Will the Dodgers stay hot to open the season?
A big question a lot of people have on their minds is will the Dodgers stay hot to open the season? While Thursday is Opening Day, it will actually mark the third game of the season for Los Angeles. Last week, the Cubs and Dodgers opened the campaign with a special two-game series in Tokyo. The Dodgers won both games, sending a statement to the rest of the bigs.
In those wins, Shohei Ohtani once again looked great, including him hitting a towering home run. Ohtani is one of the best players out there and he continues to have fans feeling thankful that he put the pen to paper with LA on a $700 million deal last offseason. Ohtani is dreaming of helping this team go back-to-back in terms of World Series titles too.

As for the Dodgers on Thursday, Los Angeles will be taking on Detroit and while the Tigers have added some exciting talent for its offense and pitching, the Dodgers are still on another level. Everyone will be working to try and take down the Dodgers this season since they're the reigning champs, but we think LA will cruise to a win over the Tigers. We're going with LA as our pick in this one.
