"Most of the first stint, I felt quite good in the first two sectors," Verstappen said after winning in Qatar. "But then in the final sector Lando already started pushing a bit more from the beginning of the race, and I was managing probably a little bit more. At one point, because he tried to close the gap, I had to push also harder in the last sector."

Lando Norris is the co-favorite to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
While yes, we are going with Verstappen as our pick, don't forget that Lando Norris is the co-favorite to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Similar to Verstappen, Norris has been sensational this year, looking like one of the best drivers on the planet. If it weren't for Verstappen, we'd surely be talking about Norris being No. 1 for the sport.
However, that's not the case, with Verstappen being on a dominant run to end the year. Norris is aware of this, as he has a tremendous amount of respect for Verstappen. With that said, Norris is tired of seeing him win all the time, and he'd love to knock him off his perch in the final race of 2024. Norris is already looking to dethrone him in 2025 too.

"When he's had the quickest car, he dominated races," Norris said recently about Verstappen. "When he's not in the quickest car, he's still been just behind us and almost winning the races anyway. So he's just not had a bad side to him. He's not had any bad races the whole year. You know, his worst was like a fifth or something. He just drove as Max has always driven, which is perfectly. Can't fault him anywhere."

Keep in mind for this weekend too that there are other drivers to keep an eye on at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Yes, Norris and Verstappen are the co-favorites, but drivers like Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and others are going to want to make a splash.
Piastri is coming off an impressive showing in Qatar. Another driver to monitor is most definitely George Russell, as he has also looked strong this year. This could come down to Norris and Verstappen, but it also wouldn't be a major surprise if someone else makes a strong push late in the action. Sometimes big-time surprises can arrive.
