MLS Weekend Preview & Matchup Comparisons
New England Revolution (+125) vs New York Red Bulls (+205)
New England Revolution are without a win in their first four games of the 2016 MLS season, having finishing all square in three games and losing their other fixture. It is the first time since 2011 that the Revolution have not registered a win in their opening four games, but I expect them to get off the mark in this match despite facing a New York Red Bulls team who recently won their first match – and score their first goals – in a 4-3 win over Houston Dynamo.
The Revolution are free from injuries while the Red Bulls will be without Damien Perrinelle, Gonzalo Veron, Gideon Baah, and Ronald Zubar.
New England won this same fixture 2-1, and the home game prior to that by the same scoreline.
Pick: New England at +125
Seattle Sounders (-115) vs Montreal Impact (+295)
The Seattle Sounders have opened their season with three consecutive defeats for the first time in their history and we expect them to halt that run in a difficult fixture at home to Montreal Impact.
Having score twice and conceded five goals in their first three games, the Seattle Sounders are not being bulldozed by their opposition, but they just do not seem to be able to find that winning formula needed to succeed in MLS games.
Montreal Impact have won two and lost one of their opening three games and we expect them to drop points here too. Although Montreal have won three of the past four meetings, including the only meeting at Seattle’s Centurylink Field, the Sounders have to click at some point and we’re going for a draw in this fixture.
Pick: Draw at +250
FC Dallas (-125) vs Columbus Crew SC (+315)
FC Dallas have won three of their first four games of the 2016 MLS, including a 3-0 victory away to D.C. United last time out. It is a great start for FC Dallas and we would not be surprised at all to see them record their fourth victory when they take on Columbus Crew SC this weekend.
Columbus Crew SC are creating chances galore, but they simply are not converting those chances into goals, which is partly why they find themselves with one draw from their opening three games, and that was a 0-0 game against Chicago Fire.
Pick: FC Dallas as -125
