NBA Wednesday Night on The Hardwood: Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons
The Beasts of the East
Excluding the shortened season in 2011-2012 – where they only played 66 games – it has been over ten years where getting the eighth seed in the East required a winning record. This year things look to be changing. Currently ten teams in the Eastern conference have a winning record – with the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons on the outside of the playoffs looking in. As the Eastern Conference is – surprisingly – the better conference this season, games between the 10th and 6th seeds are much more interesting. meaningful and even more competitive then they have been for a long while.
Boston Celtics vs. Detroit Pistons
The Celtics and Pistons have nearly identical records, but have gotten to the point they are at through different methods. The Celtics are one of the NBA quickest and most efficient offenses, limiting turnovers and playing at a fast tempo to increase scoring opportunities. The Pistons are a team built around a strong defensive game, great rebounding and slowing down the game to limit opponent scoring chances. As the teams are both quite different in strategy and style, picking the winner will be based around some other factors. The Celtic’s played the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night and head straight to Detroit afterwards. With the luxury of being the home team and not having played the night better, the Pistons are the smarter pick at -2.5. As the Celtics and Pistons both allow under 100 points per game, take the under of the 200.5 line is the better betting option.
