NFC West: NFL Laughing Stock to Toughest Division in Football

NFC West: NFL Laughing Stock to Toughest Division in Football

Remember when the NFC West went 49-79 over two seasons - including one where Seattle beat out St. Louis on tie-breakers and claimed the division title with a 7-9 record? You should - it was only four years ago during the 2009 - 2010 NFL seasons. Fast forward to NFL 2013 and we find that the West was the best as the Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals and Rams posted a combined 42-22 record plus Seattle took home the Super Bowl Championship. Can we expect more of the same in 2014?

Seahawks vs 49ers: Wild West showdown looms

Proving that defense can win Championships, no one was better at keeping their opponents off the scoreboard than Seattle in 2014. Over 16 regular season games the Seahawks allowed just 231 total points - or 14.4 points per game. San Francisco wasn't far back as the 49ers were third behind the Carolina Panthers (241) with 272 points allowed. Of the two teams, the huge home field advantage held by Seattle at CenturyLink Field means we give the edge to the Seahawks to win the NFC West.

Arizona and St. Louis face a tall task versus divisional powerhouses

A surprise to many last season, the Cardinals won't sneak up on anyone this year. Arizona, despite allowing the seventh fewest points (324) and rolling to a 10-6 record, was shut out of the postseason party last year. While they will be a solid squad the Cards are in tough to get double digit wins again this season. Which team has led the NFL with 105 QB sacks the last two seasons combined? If you said St. Louis, the black sheep of the NFC West family, you are correct. That's the start and end of the good news regarding the Rams as reaching .500 is going to be a tall order for QB Sam Bradford & Crew.

Final Though: Still in the upper echelon of the entire NFL, the Seattle vs. San Francisco battle to win the NFC West is going to be fantastic. Of the two, we like Seattle to go OVER their 11 (-125) win total line currently posted at the BetOnline sportsbook. Stay tuned as our 2014 NFL focus continues.
