NFL Week 13 Summary

NFL Week 13 Summary

All three home teams won on Week 13's Thanksgiving Day, one of the biggest NFL betting days of the season, but only the Detroit Lions were able to cover as well. The Lions ended a nine-game losing streak on the holiday with a 40-10 blowout of the Packers, who remained winless without injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers; Detroit was a 7-point favorite and covered by the largest margin of any team in Week 13.  Green Bay actually led 10-3 before the wheels quickly came off. The 30-point win was Detroit's largest on Thanksgiving since 1997 and its largest ever the holiday against Green Bay. The Lions had 561 total yards to Green Bay's 126.

Dallas beat Oakland 31-24 in the middle game on Thanksgiving, but the Raiders covered the 10-point spread. Oakland was the only double-digit dog in Week 13. In the Turkey Day nightcap, Baltimore beat visiting Pittsburgh 22-20, but the Steelers covered the 3 points with a touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Jerricho Cotchery with 1:03 left. That also put the game over the 39.5-point total. Pittsburgh failed on the 2-point conversion try and then couldn't recover the onside kick. Close, low-scoring games are nothing new in the Ravens-Steelers rivalry. The past six games have all been decided by a field goal or less and the highest total was 43 points.

The biggest underdog to win in Week 13 was Jacksonville at +7.5 beating the host Cleveland Browns 32-28 on a Chad Henne to Cecil Shorts 20-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds left. Browns receiver Josh Gordon had 10 catches for a team-record 261 yards and two scores, becoming the first player in NFL history with back-to-back 200-yard receiving games. In addition, Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery had 12 catches for 249 yards and two TDs in Chicago's 23-20 overtime loss at Minnesota. Gordon and Jeffery are the first two players to have at least 10 catches for 200 yards and two scores on the same day.

Overall in Week 13, favorites covered nine of the 16 games  while the under hit in nine of the 16. The highest-scoring game was Patriots 34, Texans 31 (over 49) and Falcons 34, Bills 31 (over 48). The lowest-scoring was Dolphins 23, Jets 3 (under 39.5).
