NFL Week 15 Summary

NFL Week 15 Summary

If you wagered on the over in a Week 15 NFL game, chances are it was a winning bet because on Sunday the league's teams combined to score 763 points, the most in a single day in NFL history.  The league is on pace to shatter its overall scoring record for the season.

Eight games saw at least one team reach 30 points. The highest-scoring game of the week was Kansas City's 56-31 victory at Oakland, with the Chiefs, who were 6.5-point favorites, easily exceeding the total of 44 by themselves. It was the most ever scored against the Raiders. Kansas City scored 35 points in the first half alone, the second straight week the team scored at least that many in the first half. The Chiefs are the only franchise in league history to do that in consecutive games (also in December 2002). Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles had five touchdowns against the Raiders and became the first running back ever with four touchdown receptions in a game. The Chiefs became the fourth team ever to make the playoffs a year after losing 14 games. It's why Kansas City's Andy Reid is expected to be named 2013 NFL Coach of the Year.

One of the biggest upsets of the season came in the final Thursday night game of the regular season as San Diego won 27-20 in Denver as a 10-point underdog (total was set at a league-high 56.5) . The Broncos had been 7-0 at home, winning every game by at least 10 points. Denver entered the game with at least 40 total yards in every quarter this season, but failed to reach that in either the second or third quarters against San Diego. It was easily Denver's lowest-scoring and yardage (295) game of the season.

Overall favorites were 8-7-1 against the spread in Week 15. The over hit in 10 of the 16 games. The lowest-scoring game was Seattle's 23-0 win at the New York Giants. That was the only shutout of the week. The Giants had just 181 yards and Eli Manning threw five interceptions.
