NFL Week 6 Predictions
In week 5, favorites went 7-6 against the spread, with a bunch of close games. Week 6 features a slate of games where the betting public seems to be siding with the chalk. While it's never good to be contrary for the sake of being contrary, this week does present some golden opportunities to go
Week 6 features a slate of games where the betting public seems to be siding with the chalk. While it's never good to be contrary for the sake of being contrary, this week does present some golden opportunities to go against the grain.
Los Angeles (+2.5) @Jacksonville (-2.5) O/U: 42.5
This game does not figure to be very high scoring with the Jacksonville secondary providing precious few opportunities for opposing teams. That might be a reason to like the Jags here against young QB Jared Goff, but I see another situation developing.
The Rams will pound the ball with Todd Gurley, eventually softening the Jags and creating a few downfield chances as the game goes on. If the Rams can move the chains with Gurley, they can certainly walk out of Jacksonville with the win.
Chicago (+7) @ Baltimore (-7) O/U: 39.5
I'll take another road underdog here with the Bears going against a suspect Ravens offense.
The much-maligned Bears actually haven't looked all that bad this season and are a few close losses away from respectability. There's also plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the QB switch to Mitch Trubisky who played better than his stats would indicate last week in his debut.
If Trubisky can avoid turning the ball over, the Bears are plenty capable of hanging around in this game. Seven points seems like a comfortable cushion here when the Bears theoretically have some upside at this point.
New York Giants (11.5) @ Denver (-11.5) O/U: 39.5
The Giants are as bad as their winless record suggests and now they are also short-handed. News sources reported that nine players from the roster missed practice Wednesday with various injuries including marquee receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall.
Their offensive woes should continue behind a porous offensive line.
Much of the public will take the bait on Denver in this game, but laying 11.5 points is never a great idea in the NFL. Instead, let's play under the posted total as Denver figures to do a lot of running in this one while the Giants continue to spin their wheels on offense.
