NFL Weekend Picks - Week 9

NFL Weekend Picks - Week 9

Great Pick

Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts

Pick: Denver -5

Peyton Manning returns to Indianapolis for the second time since becoming a Denver Bronco with a chance to make history on the line. Peyton Manning can pass Brett Favre on Sunday to become the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards and wins. The thing about these Broncos is they are not really winning through offense, but through their suffocating defense. The Colts’ coaches and management are currently in shambles and the team is struggling – especially quarterback Andrew Luck. The Broncos should be able to run over the Colts on Sunday with their revitalized running game and crushing pass rush.

Good Pick

Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers

Pick: Atlanta -7

Blaine Gabbert…enough said. Well to expand on the opening sentence, the 49ers have benched Colin Kaepernick in favour of Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert is one of the worst quarterbacks drafted in the past decade with a career completion percentage of 53% and more interceptions than touchdowns. The move is a strange one and likely to not produce much success – considering the 49ers also traded away their former Pro Bowl tight end this week on top of this. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman should put up some big numbers for the Falcons and wallop the host Niners.

Game to Avoid

Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills

Buffalo -3

Divisional games are often the hardest to call and this is no exception. Both teams return to action after extended time off, with Buffalo having its bye week and Miami playing a Thursday night game 10 days ago. Each team is hovering right around the playoff fringe, but cannot seem to get over the hump of mediocre. The Bills are at home and Miami lost Cameron Wake last week which gives the Bills a slight edge, but who knows what you will get out of either team on any given week.

Fantasy Players of the Week:

Quarterback: Derek Carr vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – Carr is beginning to turn into an elite quarterback – in both play calibre and fantasy production. Carr is on pace 31 passing touchdowns and 4100 yards to only 8 interceptions – spectacular numbers for a second year player. The Steelers defense is middle-of-the-pack and Carr has effectively found ways to spread the ball around and excel against better defenses.

Running Back: Doug Martin vs. New York Giants – The Giants defense is not very good – Brees threw for over 500 yards and 7 tds last week. While the Bucs offense is often overlooked by fantasy players, Doug Martin is having himself a great season – ranking fourth in rushing yards and adding some addition value in the passing game. Martin should find some holes on Sunday against a Giants defense giving up an average of 112 rushing yards per game.

Wide Receiver: Pierre Garcon vs. New England Patriots – Two words for you “Garbage Time.” In a game expected to be a blowout, the Redskins will likely be spending most of the game playing catch-up. That means more passes, more chances for points and late game stat stuffing. Garcon may not get much in the first three quarters, but could sneak in a late game td. He is always an even better options in PPR leagues.

Tight End: Benjamin Watson vs. Tennessee Titans – Watson is having his best season in his 11 year career and the Saints offense is getting hot. Watson who replaced Jimmy Graham in the Saints’ offense, over the past 3 weeks has really begun to mirror Graham’s production averaging 8 catches and 111 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns.

Defense: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys – The Eagles defense is a productive one when it comes to forcing turnovers and getting sacks. The Cowboys have not played well while Tony Romo is recovering from injury and have turned the ball plenty over that stretch while failing to score points.
