NFL Weekend Picks: Weekend 13

NFL Weekend Picks: Weekend 13

Great Pick: Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers

Odds: Denver -3.5

As San Diego’s disappointing season liners on, the Denver Broncos seemed to have flipped the right switch and figured out their offense as they enter the final stretch of the season. The two biggest points going in Denver’s favour against San Diego is Denver’s revitalized run game and the return of Demarcus Ware. San Diego’s offensive line is quite banged up allowing for Demarcus Ware and company to generate plenty of pressure on Philip Rivers. The revitalized run game and San Diego’s mediocre rush defense will allow for Denver to control the pace of the game, allowing the aforementioned pass rush to be well rested when they hit the field.

Pick: Denver

Good Pick: Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams

Odds: Arizona -6.5

The Cardinals offense sputtered last weekend, but remain one of the best units in the league, ranking 1st in total yards and points scored. In contrast the St. Louis Rams rank right at the bottom, sitting 31st in total yards and points scored. The Cardinals – who sit pretty at 9-2 – lost to the Rams earlier this year 24-22. The Cardinals will look to exhibit some revenge against a Rams squad whose season has gone downhill over the last few weeks.

Pick: Arizona

Game to Avoid: New York Jets vs. New York Giants

Odds: New York Jet -2

The rare four year New York Jets vs. New York Giants match-up occurs this Sunday with the Giants having the honour of being host (if that really makes a huge different since they play in the same stadium). Both teams are in right in the middle of the playoff hunt and this game is quite important for each team – even though it is an out-of-conference game. Both teams are surprisingly equal in terms of offense, with the Jets ranking 14th in total yards and 7th in points, while the Giants sit 15th in total yards and 5th in points. The big difference comes on the defensive side of the ball. The Giants have the league’s worst defense, giving up close to 420 yards per game, compared to the Jets 3rd ranked defense. The Jets have lost the last five meeting between the teams.

Fantasy Players of the Week

Quarterback: Jay Cutler vs. San Francisco 49ers – Facing the 28th ranked pass defense and likely to have his healthiest group of receivers in weeks, Jay Cutler is well setup to have a great game on the field. Cutler has great numbers this season, despite missing one and a half games this season – averaging over 250 yards per game and limiting his turnovers.

Running Back: C.J Anderson vs. San Diego Chargers – Finally starting to look like the stud player he was last year, C.J Anderson has an excellent match-up in week 13 as the Broncos travel to San Diego. The Chargers have given up the most fantasy points to running backs this season. With the change of quarterback in Denver sparking the running game, Anderson is poised for a productive game. He has even found his role in the passing game expand over the last two weekends, adding a bonus for anyone participating in a PPR style league.

Wide Receiver: Allen Robinson vs. Tennessee Titans – Allen Robinson has been dynamite this year. In eleven games his season low in points is 6.8 and he has broken the double digit mark in 9 of 11 games this season. He will be without the other Allen brother on the opposite side of the field, meaning he will likely draw some additional coverage. This would normally be a deterrence, but with Jacksonville’s tight end Julius Thomas getting hot and splitting defender, Robinson has a good chance to get open against a team he posted 5 receptions for 113 yards against two weeks ago.

Tight End: Travis Kelce vs. Oakland Raiders – Kelce has been quietly having a Pro Bowl season in Kansas City. He has recorded at least 3 catches in each game this season and with the Chiefs being one of the hottest teams in the league, his production is slowly creeping higher. Last season against the Raiders, Kelce average over 60 yards per game and a scored a receiving TD.

Defense: New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles – New England is hoping to get back some key defensive players this weekend improving their pass rushing and rush stopping abilities. The Patriots rank 5th in points allowed, always a good measure for a fantasy defense’s productivity. Couple that with the Eagles complete collapse the last two weeks and an angry New England team that will be looking to lay a licking at home on Sunday afternoon. If Danny Amendola can make it back, he adds a dynamic punt return ability, always capable of taking a return to the house.
