NHL Thursday Nights on The Ice: New York Rangers Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

NHL Thursday Nights on The Ice: New York Rangers Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

The King of the Big Apple

Henrik Lundqvist is having himself a quite the season – and since Derek Jeter’s retirement – may be the best and biggest athlete in the Big Apple. The Rangers are sitting comfortably right now, tied for the best record in the NHL. The Rangers have won 9 straight games behind Lundqvist’s dominating performance. King Henrik leads the league in wins, goals against average and save percentage. As of right now, Lundqvist is a frontrunner for the NHL MVP award.

Lightning not Striking the Goal Light

Even with a potent first line the Lightning are near the bottom of the league in goals scored, averaging around 2.3 per game. Compared to the Rangers, the Lightning only have three players with 5 or more goals this season, while the Rangers have 5 over the mark. It is even worst when you go up to 6 goals or more as the Lightning only have Steven Stamkos compared to the three players on the Rangers. The Lightning need to get more production from to forwards as they currently find themselves out of a playoff spot 20 games into the season.

New York Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

This is the Rangers and Lightning first game since their seven game showdown in the Eastern Conference finals. That series featured an interesting range of results, including two shutouts, three games decided by four goals and two decided by only one. Through the first quarter of the season the Rangers are red hot and the Lightning are somewhat struggling. With the superb play of Lundqvist, better offense and players looking to avenge their playoff lost last year, the Rangers have a good shot at extending their winning streak to ten games. With a line of around +105, the Rangers are an attractive underdog option even though they possibly the best team in the NHL.
