Premier League Picks Week 25
A Six Pointer for Spurs?
Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in what is the pick of the fixtures on Matchday 25. Spurs could be five points away from a top four place in the table by the time their game against Man. Utd kicks off and they know they really need to win if they are to challenge for a Champions League spot next season.
Mauricio Pochattino’s men looked out of sorts in the 1-1 home draw against Southampton last time out in the league and will count themselves lucky that they earned a reply against lowly Newport County at the weekend.
Manchester United know that the league title is almost certainly beyond them now but they will still want to push Man City all the way just in case they slip up at any point. United have won three EPL games on the spin and haven’t conceded a goal in more than 1,080 minutes of soccer.
United will likely hand a full league début to Alexis Sanchez, their signing from rivals Arsenal, and I can see him causing a stir among the Spurs defenders. I actually think United will win this game and the +230 odds on Bovada look tempting, as does the +220 on Sanchez scoring anytime.
Both Teams to Score at the Liberty Stadium
Swansea City, the Premier League’s bottom side, invite Arsenal to their Liberty Stadium home and do so full of confidence following their 1-0 win over high-flying Liverpool.
The Swans have looked harder to beat since Carlos Carvalhal took over at the helm, and while scoring goals looks to still be a problem, they could find it easier going against Arsenal who have conceded 18 away Premier League goals this season and have only managed to win three of their 12 league games on the road; it is safe to say Arsenal are fragile on their travels.
Both teams to score and an Arsenal win comes in at around +220 with both teams to score and the game to be tied priced at +1200. Arsenal should be too strong for Swansea despite their poor away form; the previous two meetings in Wales have ended 3-0 and 4-0 in Arsenal’s favor.
This game could be what Alexandre Lacazette needs. The Frenchman scored his first goals in 10 games last week against Crystal Palace to boost his confidence, but his Arsenal side are being heavily linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so Lacazette needs t rediscover the form that made Arsenal buy him. Lacazette is +325 to score first and +100 to score at any time.
Chelsea to Pick off the Cherries
Chelsea snapped out of a five game winless run by smashing Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 on Jan. 20 and followed that up with a 3-0 demolition of Newcastle United in the FA Cup.
Admittedly, they lost 2-1 away to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final, but after reverting to their 3-4-3 formation, Chelsea look a lot stronger than in previous weeks.
The Blues entertain Bournemouth at a good time because the Cherries are struggling for form on the road. Eddie Howe’s men are without a win in eight away games and have only won twice in their previous 15 games in total.
Backing Chelsea to win at -425 doesn’t hold a ton of value, but backing a Chelsea/Chelsea half time / full time result at -130 does look like the bet to make as Bournemouth are awful away from home.
