Saturday NHL Betting Tips
Best Value NHL Bets On Saturday
By Angelo Montilla
Here are several NHL betting options to consider, with odds courtesy of Bovada.
Chicago Blackhawks (-175) vs. Nashville Predators (+145)
The Predators struck first in what is sure to be a long and grueling series against the Blackhawks.
The Central Division-winning Blackhawks will look to get even when they host the Preds in Game 2 Saturday night at the United Center.
That’s five straight losses for the Hawks — -145 favorites on Saturday — who dropped the final four games of the regular season. The Predators, who are +145 underdogs, contained Chicago’s top two offensive threats in Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.
The Blackhawks were not able to find the back of the net in Game 1, but don’t expect that to be the case on Saturday night.
If you’re betting total goals, Bovada is offering a line of 5. Considering Chicago’s offense is one of the best in the NHL this season, that is a value pick — especially on home ice.
Pick: Chicago Blackhawks (-175) and the over (5)
Boston Bruins (-125) vs. Ottawa Senators (-105)
Brad Marchand was the hero in Game 1, scoring the winning goal to give Boston the early edge over their Atlantic Division counterparts.
The Bruins will look to take a stranglehold in the best-of-seven series on Saturday night when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Senators in Game 2 at Canadian Tire Centre.
Marchand has been the difference maker in the early stages of the series, both at the offensive end as well as in his own zone.
The Bruins will need their star forward to be at the top of his game once again as they can expect to see a much-hungrier Senators’ team in Game 2.
The opening tilt produced just two goals and with two red-hot goalies at each end, that should be the case again on Saturday night. Take the under on Bovada’s total goals projection of 5, with the Senators evening out the series at one game apiece.
Pick: Ottawa Senators (-105) and the under (5)
Washington Capitals (-250) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (+200)
Many expected this series to be lopsided, but if Game 1 was any indication, the Maple Leafs will not go down without a fight.
The Presidents’ Trophy winning Washington Capitals grabbed the early advantage in the series after beating the Leafs in overtime in Game 1.
The Caps will look to make it two in a row on Saturday as they host the young Maple Leafs at the Verizon Center — where the club has only dropped seven games all season.
Both these clubs were amongst the highest scoring teams in the league this season, however goaltenders Braden Holtby of the Capitals and Frederik Andersen of the Maple Leafs will make this a low-scoring affair.
If Toronto can net the first goal once again, it will put the pressure back on the Capitals, who looked nervous throughout moments of the opener.
Take the under on Bovada’s total goals line of 5.5 with the Maple Leafs notching the series.
Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs (+200) and the under (5.5)
Anaheim Ducks (-160) vs. Calgary Flames (+130)
The last time the Flames celebrated a win at the Honda Center was in 2006. Trailing 1-0 in the best-of-seven series to the Ducks, the Flames will look to snap their skid in Anaheim when the Pacific Division rivals clash in Game 2 of their first-round series.
The Ducks enter the highly anticipated contest as -160 favorites on home ice, where the club has only lost eight games during the 2016-17 season. The Flames, who head to California desperate for a victory, are +130 underdogs.
Both clubs are matched evenly up front with the Flames averaging 2.75 goals per game compared to the Ducks, who are scoring 2.72.
Five of the last 10 meetings between the Flames and Ducks have resulted in over outcomes. Four resulted in pushes and only once has a match between these two clubs gone under during that span.
With Saturday’s total goal projection of 5, it’s a good time to take the over again. But this time put your money on the Flames.
Pick: Calgary Flames (+130) and the over (5)
