Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter Odds
- Terence Crawford - -700
- Shawn Porter - +450
The undefeated Crawford comes into the fight as a heavy favorite with BetOnline Sports Betting, priced up at -700. That means you'll need to stake $700 just to see $100 profit if you believe that champion will retain his title.
On the other hand, you can get Porter at a tasty +450 to snap the winning run of Crawford and be crowned as the champion on the night, meaning if you stake $100 you will earn a $450 profit if it lands.
Crawford vs Porter preview
This is a fight between two of the very best in the world, but Crawford is arguably the best in the world. With a record of 37-0 with 28 knockouts, his brilliant boxing ability and stand-out knockout power separates him from the pack on most occasions and has been key in the tremendous career he's had so far.
This will be his first fight in over a year though and is the first time he'll be able to fight someone from a different promotion, having previously been restricted to fighting against other Top Ranked fighters.
'Bud' has won each of his last eight fights in a row via KO/TKO and his ability to fight from different stances means it's very hard to make a set game plan against him.
He has an excellent jab for when he wants to lead the dance from the center of the ring but also is a super-accurate counter puncher for when he decides to take a break from being the aggressor. Defensively he does a great job with his guard and to parry shots, while his body can take a shot if he ever gets caught leaving it open (which isn't very often).
Porter must use flurries
If Porter is to have success in this bout, he will need to be on the move a lot and use his explosive flurries to perfection to disrupt the rhythm of the champion.
Porter currently holds a record of 31-3-1, with all three of his defeats coming on the judge's scorecards. He has 17 wins by knockout.
When he's at his best, 'Showtime' is as persistent as they come when it comes to pressure fighting in the ring. He steps forward to close the distance quickly, giving his opponents little-to-no room to work and popping out plenty of volume shots across 12 rounds of action.
As the underdog, this suits him so that he is able to be on the front foot for the majority of the fight and he can control the pace of the bout to his advantage. However Porter is also a solid counter-puncher himself and with Crawford being such a technically sound defensive fighter, he may be better off encouraging the champion to come forward.
Back Crawford to get it done
This is a fight that will test the level of both fighters currently, and ultimately I think the champion will come out on top once again.
Porter is at his best when closing the distance and looking to land big, powerful shots on the inside. If he does that in this fight, against someone as technical and composed as Crawford then he is facing the biggest uphill struggle of his career.
Crawford will welcome the big winging shots, backing himself to defend excellently as he almost always does, and then countering with big shots of his own.
First Top Elite Fighter for Porter
Porter has never fought an elite fighter as powerful as Crawford before, so where his previous defeats have made it to the judge's scorecards there is the potential that this one doesn't if Crawford can land flush late on.
With that said though, I think with Crawford having been out of the ring for some time and with Porter having never been knocked out that would be a big surprise.
Ultimately, Crawford is the better boxer and when styles make fights this is the type of fight that suits the champion down to the ground. He will be able to use his slight reach advantage to land his jab and if Porter can get on the inside, his superior defense and powerful counter-striking will be enough to earn him yet another victory to his tally with the judges.
