Three Reasons Why You Should Bet on The 2017 MLS Cup
2017 MLS Cup Betting Lines
The 2017 MLS Cup is a rematch of the 2016 MLS Cup as Toronto FC once again play host to Seattle Sounders at the BMO Field. Last season, Toronto finished third in the Eastern Conference before bulldozing their way through the playoffs to reach the MLS Cup final. The Sounders finished fourth in the Western Conference before impressing during the playoffs to reach the final.
Both Toronto and the Sounders had to endure some difficult, freezing conditions and fought out a 0-0 draw after extra time. The game was eventually settled with a penalty shootout, with Sounders running out 5-4 winners to claim their first-ever MLS title.
Although the 2017 MLS Cup is forecast to have similar cold conditions, the game should be far more exciting thanks to the regular season that both sides have enjoyed. Toronto won 24 victories in all competitions, earned the title of best regular season performance in MLS history, best strike force in MLS history; journalists are running out of superlatives to describe the Canadian outfit.
Likewise, Sounders were impressive throughout the season and their head coach, Brian Schmetzer, claiming his roster is far more motivated to win than they were last year and they are determined to become only the fourth team in MLS history to win back-to-back MLS Cups.
The MLS Cup is ripe and ready for betting on. Regardless of your own reasons for betting on the 2017 MLS Cup, here is why we’ll be putting a few bucks on various outcomes of the match.
#1 Spice up the game with some of the best soccer lines
While you should not simply rely on placing a bet to add excitement to a soccer match, betting on the 2017 MLS Cup could add a little spice to your day, especially if you are planning to watch the game unfold live.
Having even a small bet on the outcome of the game can help boost your interest or keep your interest high, even if the action on the pitch is a little slow.
Betting on the first goal scorer market can have you on the edge of your seat if the player you have backed is on an attack. Similarly, if you have bet on there being a penalty in the game (+275 at Bovada) you’re excitement will peak each time a player enters the penalty box.
#2 Championship games are always a good way to boost your bankroll
Thanks to their epic season, Toronto go into the 2017 MLS Cup as -120 favorites. The Canadians only lost once from 17 home fixtures during regular season and they won 13 of those 17 games.
Conversely, Sounders were poor on their travels during regular season, winning three, drawing six and losing eight of their 17 games, which is why Sounders are +320 underdogs at Bovada.
Toronto may be heavy favorites, this was the case last season, yet you cannot write off Sounders’ chances. Sounders know how to “park the bus” and play a super tight defense that could keep Toronto’s deadly strike force at bay long enough to take the game into extra time and even penalties and anything can happen then.
Bovada have the draw at 90-minutes at +245 and Toronto priced at -250 to lift the MLS Cup either in 90-minutes, after extra time or penalties.
#3 Claim your bragging rights among your friends
Even if you do not support either Toronto or Seattle Sounders, betting on the outcome of the 2017 MLS Cup could give you the opportunity to have bragging rights about your sports betting knowledge among your friends.
Correctly predicting the outcome or something like the correct score market can be a good way to get one over on your friends who have got their bets horribly wrong. Don’t brag too much, however, because you are setting yourself up for a spectacular fail if and when you get your bets wrong!
So which markets do we think hold the most value. Despite Sounders’ heroics last season, I can’t see anything other than a Toronto victory this time around. Toronto just look far too strong for anyone and the -120 on them winning within 90-minutes looks too good to turn down, especially when winning will make Toronto the first MLS team to win the domestic treble.
Another bet worth looking at is the under 2 goals at +125 and a 1-0 Toronto win at +500. Sounders failed to register a single shot on goal last season, instead preferring to defend with their backs to the wall, so this could be yet another low scoring encounter.
