Thursday Night on The Ice: Columbus Blue Jackets Vs. Los Angeles Kings
Kings once again?
The Kings missed the playoffs last season after winning the Stanley Cup in two of the previous three seasons before then. After the disappointment of last year, the Kings have already began to erase last season’s futility – if 9th in the West and 93 points really is futile - with a recent 7-game winning streak and an early season record of 8-4-0. The Kings are the leading the Pacific division after 12 games and look much like the Kings Stanley Cup teams of 2011 and 2013.
New Coach, new team
After the Blue Jackets hired their head Coach after starting the season 0-7, the Blue Jackets reached out and hired the energetic and somewhat crass John Tortorella. Since hiring Tortorella, the Blue Jackets have been 3-3-0, a noteworthy improvement – though nothing spectacular. The Blue Jackets finished off last season 9-0-1 and if Torts can get his players playing like that again, the Jackets may be able to climb out of that earlier season hole and challenge for a playoff spot.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Los Angeles Kings
The Blue Jackets have allowed the second most goals in the league – 48 over 13 games – but have improved their defense and goaltender since Tortorella started coaching the team. The Kings have not been winning games with their offense, so expect low-scoring with most over/under lines at 5 and the under being a more attractive option. The Kings are a smart pick to beat the Jackets on Thursday night, as they hold a .618 win advantage over the Blue Jackets and are the superior team.
