UFC 247: Controversial Jones Back In The Octagon
UFC 247 is set for Saturday, Feb. 8th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. These are the current main event UFC 247 picks provided by Bovada
- UFC Light Heavyweight Championship – Jon Jones (-450) vs. Dominick Reyes (+325)
- UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship – Valentina Shevchenko (-1400) vs. Kaitlynn Chookagian (+750)
- Heavyweight Bout – Juan Adams (-230) vs. Justin Tafa (+180)
Jones Is UFC’s Best
Pound for pound, Jon Jones is listed as the best fighter in UFC, and with good reason. He’s 25-1 in his career with one no contest. In fact, the only person who’s proven capable of beating Jones during his career is Jones himself.
Jones was disqualified from his only loss for throwing illegal downward elbows at Matt Hamill. He was stripped of his light heavyweight title after he was charged with felony hit and run. And twice after returning to the octagon, Jone was suspended from UFC following positive drug tests.

One of those positive tests led to his 2017 victory over Daniel Cormier in a title bout being declared a no contest. The second positive test resulted in Jones being again stripped of his title.
Since returning to the octagon late in 2018, Jones is 3-0. He beat Alexander Gustafsson to regain the vacant UFC light heavyweight belt. He’s defended his title twice since. Jones won a unanimous decision over Anthony Smith at UFC 235 and scored a split-decision victory over Thiago Santos at UFC 239.

Jon Jones (-450) vs Dominick Reyes (+325)
Is Jones starting to slip a bit? Is it time to consider playing an upset in the UFC 247 picks? It took everything he had to overcome Santos, even though the latter suffered a torn ACL early in the bout.
On the other hand, he did overcome Santos, as he has everyone who’s stood in his path. Jones is the better grappler than Reyes, and he’ll utilize his seven-inch reach advantage to hold the powerful Reyes at bay.
Known as The Devastator, Reyes is 12-0 and has recorded our knockout wins in less than a minute. His list of victims includes former UFC middleweight champ, Chris Weidman.
At the very least, Reyes is in with a puncher’s chance in the UFC fighting bets.
Valentina Shevchenko (-1400) vs. Kaitlynn Chookagian (+750)
Shevchenko is close to becoming the Jones of female fighters. The UFC flyweight champion is currently the No. 2 pound-for-pound female fighter in the promotion.
She’s 18-3 and won the flyweight title from Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 231. Shevchenko defended the title twice since. As a former pro boxer and kickboxer, she’s skilled in many combat disciplines.
Chookagian (13-2) has won five of her last six fights but simply hasn’t faced the level of competition that Shevchenko has taken on in her career in order to consider her for a UFC 247 bet. Neither of these fighters is a knockout puncher, so look for Shevchenko to win via unanimous decision.
Juan Adams (-230) vs. Justin Tafa (+180)
Adams (5-2) has lost his last two fights. He was knocked out by former NFL player Greg Hardy in his previous bout. He won his first five fights, all via KO.
Tafa (3-1) is also looking to bounce back following a knockout loss to Yorgan De Castro in his UFC debut last October. Coming back to the octagon less than four months after being knocked seems rather quick.
Adams is more complete fighter than Tafa and should get back on the winning track.
