UFC Preview: UFC 194 - Aldo Vs. McGregor
Main Event: Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor
Odds: Aldo +105, McGregor -133
Jose Aldo makes his long awaited return from injury on Saturday night and faces off against Interim Featherweight champion Conor McGregor. After Aldo went down with a lengthy injury, McGregor won the interim belt while Aldo recovered. Now, 14 months later, Aldo makes his return to claim back the belt he never lost. McGregor and Aldo have been engaged in some pretty intense smack talk leading up to the event. While trash talk is all well and good, it will be what they do in the ring that actually matters. Both fighters have great well rounded games, with the abilities to win through takedowns or by pinpoint power striking. The two match up very evenly, and through Aldo is considered the better pound-for-pound fighter, he will have some rust to shake off. Because of McGregor’s success while Aldo was recovering, he gets the nod tonight, but you can expect a rematch between these two fighters in 2016.
Pick: McGregor
Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold
Odds: Weidman -165, Rockhold +135
Not only is the Featherweight belt on the line tonight, but Chris Weidman will be defending his Middleweight belt on the second last event of the night. Weidman is a crisp 12-0 in his MMA career, having won the Middleweight belt back in July of 2013 with three successful defenses over the next two and a half years. His opponent, the top ranked Middleweight challenger Luke Rockhold, comes in having won his last four matches and looks to give Weidman all he can handle with his superb wrestling skills, jiu jitsu and kickboxing abilities. Weidman matches up well due to his experience wrestling and outstanding athleticism. Weidman’s ability to defense takedowns gives him the edge over Rockhold, who has won the majority of his career fights through takedowns and submission.
Pick: Weidman
Frankie Saenz vs. Urijah Faber
Odds: Saenz +400, Faber -600
Down the fight card a bit, we have two notable bantamweights facing off for bettors to enjoy before the two title fights get underway later on in the night. Faber has become a fairly prominent name in the UFC and he has a chance to continue to increase his exposure with a victory against the 12th ranked bantamweight – Frankie Saenz. Faber is close to getting a title fight and a victory against Saenz should help. Saenz is a great grappler with a strong ground game and will be a more challenging opponent for Faber than the odds are really pointing towards. Faber lost his last match, but he was fighting up a weight class and has since dropped back down to a class where he has won 6 of his last 7.
Pick: Faber
