UFC Preview: UFC 195: Lawler Vs. Condit

UFC Preview: UFC 195: Lawler Vs. Condit

Main Event: Carlos Condit vs. Robbie Lawler

Odds: Condit -115, Lawler -115

The first title fight of the New Year headlines UFC 195 and it should be a good one. Lawler will go for his second title defense, this time against Carlos Condit – the 4th ranked Welterweight fighter. The challenger – Condit – has changed his game up over the last few years and while the results have been so-so – a 4-3 record since 2011 – it obviously has been good enough to keep him in title fight consideration. Lawler has some advantages over Condit – and though Condit is a former champ with a wealth of experience – Lawler should retain his title to start off 2016.

Pick: Lawler

Andrei Arlovski vs. Stipe Miocic

Odds: Arlovski +175, Miocic -225

Two of the top Heavyweight contenders head to the octagon for the lead up match before the main event. As the second and third ranked contenders in the Heavyweight class, this fight is certain to have a sizeable impact on who is fighting in the next Heavyweight title bout. Arlovski left the UFC for a while, but since returning in 2014 he has compiled a 4-0 record with two first round knockouts. Arlovski is also capable of winning through submission. Miocic is more of a pure brawler and grappler, with higher striking accuracy than his opponent. When comparing the two fighters side-by-side the match is pretty even, but Miocic strong striking abilities gives him the advantage against Arlovski – who defends grappling/takedowns better than striking.

Pick: Miocic

Albert Tumenov vs. Lorenz Larkin

Odds: Tumenov -225, Larkin +175

Two more Welterweight fighters round out the biggest matches of UFC 195. Neither fighter holds a spot in the top 15th Welterweights, but they have a chance at entering the mix with a strong showing on Saturday night. Tumenov is the favourite in this match after pulling off 4 straight victories – with 3 coming in the first round. Larkin and Tumenov are both strikers, doing most of their fighting standing up – so victory through KO/TKO is the likeliest outcome. Expect a quality match, but the edge goes to Tumenov.

Pick: Tumenov
