Weekend MLB Series Preview: Toronto Blue Jay Vs. Detroit Tigers
Friday Pitchers: Drew Hutchison (8-1 4.99 ERA) vs. Anibal Sanchez (6-7 4.83 ERA)
Drew Hutchison: A tale of two cities (or one city and everywhere else), Hutchison's ERA on the road during 2015 is an astronomical 8.92 compared to an amazing 2.12. Something has to bend, as the current Jays' ace cannot keep performing so poorly on the road.
Anibal Sanchez: His weakest points of 2015 will likely hurt him against the Blue Jays on Friday night. While he is currently posting a respectable 8.1 strikeouts per 9 innings, his 18 homeruns given up so far (over 1 per game), looms large against the highest scoring team in baseball.
Probable Pitchers for Saturday's Game: R.A Dickey (3-8 4.85 ERA) vs. David Price (7-2 2.62 ERA)
R.A Dickey: The knuckleballer has struggled in 2015, partly due to the fact he has the lowest run support of all Blue Jays starter. That being said, the trend is unlikely to change on Saturday while facing-off against a former CY Young pitching.
David Price: The former ace for the Tampa Bay Rays has dominated the Blue Jays in his career, to the tune of a 15-2 record (over 20 games) and an ERA of 2.47. He should continue to produce admirably against the Jays on Saturday, and the Tigers will likely even the series up on America's Independence Day.
Probable Pitchers for Sunday's Game: Marco Estrada (5-4 3.58 ERA) vs. Justin Verlander (0-1 5.09) ERA
Marco Estrada: Estrada has enjoyed, so far, a better than expected campaign in 2015. Over the past five starts, Estrada has only given up a batting average of .183 and has an ERA 2.36. His continual improvement has helped the Blue Jays remain very competitive in both the American League East and Wild Card races.
Justin Verlander: After spending the beginning of 2015 on the disabled list, Verlander is trying to return to his CY Young winning form in his fourth game of 2015. While he did improve in his last start, he remains rusty and will be facing the top offense in the MLB will prove to be too much for Verlander.
Something to Watch...Right fielders J.D Martinez (Detroit) and Jose Bautista (Toronto).
Both right fielders are having all-star quality seasons in 2015 and should provide some entertain for fans and prop bettors this weekend. With each player raking in over 40 RBIS and each with over 15 dingers before the All-Star break, the two players are producing at high levels and with the temperature rising in July, expect at least a homerun from each over the weekend series.
Picks
The Blue Jays are currently in the middle of a very heat AL East race, while the Tigers are somewhat underperforming. Look for the bluebirds to take two of three of the games this weekend, with David Price shutting down the Blue Jays on Saturday.
