The fourth of five races to be run on the opening day of the 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships, the Juvenile Turf has historically been one of the most wide-open of the Breeders' Cup races in terms of the odds, and it looks like this year that trend will continue. Open to two-year-old colts, they'll be racing one mile at Chuchill Downs, chasing a purse of $1 million.
A brand-new race added to the 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships, the Juvenile Turf Sprint will be the first of 14 Breeders' Cup races to be run at Churchill Downs the first weekend of November. The race is open to two-year-old colts and fillies, sprinting 5.5 furlongs on the Churchill turf course, and offers a total purse of $1 million.
The final 'Win and You're In' qualifying race for the 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships takes place on Wednesday at Keeneland Race Course with the running of the (G2) Jessamine Stakes. Fourteen two-year-old fillies have been entered to race 1 1/16 miles on the Keeneland turf course, chasing a total purse of $200,000. The winner will earn a starting spot in the gate for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Pure speed will be on display Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita Race Track with the running of the (G1) Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes. A flat-out six furlong dash for the cash on the Santa Anita dirt, the race offers a total purse of $300,000 and a spot for the winner in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs on November 3.
On the final weekend of qualifying for the 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships, more than a dozen 'Win and You're In' races are taking place in the US, including at Santa Anita out in sunny California. On Saturday the track will host the Speakeasy Stakes, which will send the winner to the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint, the newest race in the Breeders' Cup lineup.

Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky kicks off its October meet on Friday, with a pair of important stakes races that will have implications for the Breeders' Cup World Championships on November 2 and 3. First up is the (G2) Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes for horses aged three and older. They'll race six furlongs on the the Keeneland dirt for a $250,000 total purse.
Named for the winner of the 1930 Kentucky Oaks, the (G1) Darley Alcibiades Stakes is always a good preview of some of the fillies with aspirations of winning the Oaks next May. The second big stakes race at Keeneland Race Course on Friday, the Alcibiades is also a "Win and You're In' race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filles race on November 2 at Churchill Downs.
As usual, trainer Bob Baffert is expected to have a loaded hand in the Breeders' Cup Classic, and two of his top charges will go head-to-head on Saturday at Santa Anita Race Track. Accelerate and West Coast will square off in the (G1) Awesome Again Stakes where a field of six will run 1 1/8 miles chasing a $300,000 purse on the Santa Anita dirt.
