The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint is probably the quirkiest of the Breeders' Cup World Championships races, due to the fact that as the races move to different tracks each year, the distance of the Turf Sprint changes as to what the track configuration can accommodate. For 2018 at Churchill Downs, the Turf Sprint will be run at 5.5 furlongs, and offers a purse of $1 million.
The Breeder's Cup Filly & Mare Sprint kicks off the second day of the 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships, the first of nine BC races on the Saturday card from Churchill Downs. For fillies and mares aged three and older racing seven furlongs on the dirt, it offers a total purse of $1 million. In 2017 the F&M Sprint produced the biggest single payout of all Breeders' Cup races.
The third race on the Breeders' Cup World Championships opening day, the $2 million Juvenile Fillies is open to two-year-old female horses who be will racing 1 1/16 miles on the Churchill Downs dirt track. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner is always tabbed as an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May.
The second 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships race on Future Stars Friday, November 2, and the second of 14 Breeders' Cup races in all, the Juvenile Fillies Turf is open to two-year-old fillies racing one mile on the Churchill Downs turf course. The race carries a $1 million total purse and is restricted to 14 starters. Last year Rushing Fall won the race at odds of +300.
