The opening weekend of college football was filled with some spectacular fireworks and a few outright duds. Alabama, the top-ranked team in the nation, crushed a serious contender in Florida State. And Howard, a 45-point underdog, pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of this game by shocking UNLV. Bring on Week 2.

Nick Saban or Urban Meyer don’t win the college football national title every year, it just seems that way. In the last 12 seasons, the head coaches of Alabama and Ohio State are leading the entire nation in championship crowns 7-5. The Crimson Tide and Buckeyes are at or near the top in preseason polls again this year. These two powerhouses will likely be there when it comes playoff time in 2018 as well.
