On the first day of the year, all horses born in the Northern Hemisphere turn one year older, and on New Year's Day at Aqueduct Race Track eight three-year-old colts continue the chase for Kentucky Derby points in the Jerome Stakes. They'll race one mile on the dirt for a purse of $150,000.

The richest jump race in the world, the famous Grand National at Aintree is on tap this week in the Bovada future bets watch. As of today, Bovada is offering 32 betting interests for the April 7, 2018 race, where they'll go just over four miles and jump 30 fences.

The 2018 Breeders' Cup World Championships are set to be run November 2 & 3 at Churchill Downs race track in Louisville, Kentucky. It will be the ninth time the Breeders' Cup has been run under the Twin Spires at Churchill, with the 13 races offering a total purse of $28 million.

A new option on the Bovada future bets list this week is the 2018 Pegasus World Cup, set to be run on Saturday, January 27 at Gulfstream Park in Florida. It's the world's richest horse race with a total purse of $16 million.

The road to the 2018 Kentucky Derby takes a detour through Oklahoma on Sunday, as for the first time Remington Park's $400,000 Springboard Mile Stakes will award points toward a spot in the Derby. Twelve two-year-old colts are expected to go to the gate for the one-mile run on the Remington dirt.

Although the Kentucky Derby is run every year on the first Saturday of May, the road to the starting gate for 20 horses begins long before the actual race takes place. Potential contenders for the Run For the Roses begin the journey eight months before the big race by trying to accumulate points in a series of scheduled races.

This week in the Bovada Futures Watch we take a look at two of the most historic flat races in the world, the Epsom Derby for three-year-old colts and the Epsom Oaks for three-year-old fillies. Both races take place on the first weekend of June at famed Epsom Downs in Surrey, UK.

While we're still several months away from the 2018 Triple Crown, the race is already on for horses wanting to earn a spot in the starting gate in the first leg, the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. Two weeks later they'll run the Preakness Stakes, followed three weeks later by the Belmont Stakes.

A small but talented field of five two-year-old colts are expected to go to the gate on Saturday at Los Alamitos race track for the running of the (G1) Los Alamitos Futurity. They'll be running 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for a purse of $300,000 and points toward a starting spot in the 2018 Kentucky Derby.
