Horse racing's newest star goes back to work on Saturday, as Travers Stakes winner West Coast faces nine others in the (G1) Pennsylvania Derby. They'll be racing 1 1/8 miles on the Park dirt, chasing a total purse of $1 million.
It's just less than a month away from one of Europe's most prestigious races, the €5 million Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe from Chantilly Race Course in France. With a very strong favorite in the probable field, there are lots of high-priced future bet contenders in consideration for the 12-furlong turf race, set to be run on October 1.
All three winners of the Triple Crown series this past spring are expected to go to the gate Saturday at Saratoga Race Course for the 148th running of the Travers Stakes. The race is run over 1 1/4 miles on the Saratoga dirt, with a total purse of $1.25 million, and sets up as an excellent betting race, with a full field of 12 well-matched three-year-old colts.
With six of nine runners in single-digit odds in the morning line, it's a well-matched field of three-year-old fillies that will go to the gate on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course for the (G1) Alabama Stakes. Run at a distance of 1 1/4 miles on the dirt, the Alabama carries a total purse of $600,000.
In an excellent betting race, a wide-open field of 14 three-year-old fillies will go head-to-head this Saturday at Del Mar Race Track with the running of the (G1) Del Mar Oaks. They'll be running 1 1/8 miles on the Del Mar turf course, chasing a share of the $300,000 total purse.
Arrogate goes back to work this Saturday, as the top-earning colt in the world takes on seven others in the (G1) Pacific Classic from Del Mar Race Track, the same track where he suffered the worst defeat of his career just four weeks ago.
