On Saturday, April 8, the road to the Kentucky Derby will run through New York in the $750,000 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct. The Grade 2 event will feature a wide-open field of eight.
A strong field of 11 three-year-old colts will go the gate on Saturday at Oaklawn Park to run the 1 1/16 mile (G2) Rebel Stakes, with an almost guaranteed spot in the Kentucky Derby going to the winner.
Seven are set to go to the post for the running of the 1 1/16 miles (G2) San Felipe Stakes from Santa Anita, with a total purse of $400,000 and Kentucky Derby qualifying points on the line.
The signature race at Tampa Bay Downs goes this Saturday with the running of the 1 1/16 mile (G2) Tampa Bay Derby, as 10 runners are expected to go to the gate, chasing a purse of $350,000.
Also known as 'The Big 'Cap", the (G1) Santa Anita Handicap goes this Saturday from southern California, with nine runners expected to be racing 1 1/4 miles on the dirt for a total purse of $750,000.
The $300,000 Gotham Stakes has drawn a field of ten colts and geldings and is headlined by rising star El Areeb, winner of his last four races. As part of the Kentucky Derby points system, the Gotham Stakes has 50 points towards a spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby up for grabs.
The Kentucky Derby trail continues this Saturday with the running of the (G2) Risen Star Stakes from Fair Grounds Race Course. Fourteen three-year-old colts will race 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for a purse of $400,000.
