NHL Plans: Canadian Division A Certainty
Article posted on Wednesday 16 December - 09:55 EST
As NHL owners and player reps continue to meet in order to iron out final details, the league is plotting for a January start to the regular season. It's expected that the NHL will go with a 56-game regular season. The continued closure of the Canada-USA border due to the COVID-19 pandemic almost assuredly means that the league will make a Canadian Division a certainty.
A series that many suspected would end in four games will go a minimum of six as the Washington Capitals host the Toronto Maple Leafs in what is sure to be another entertaining matchup on Friday. The Caps can inch closer to a series victory but the Leafs are determined to come out on top.
Can the Toronto Maple Leafs prove their Game 2 double-overtime victory against the Washing Capitals wasn’t a fluke? The club will get that chance on Monday night when it hosts the Presidents’ Trophy winners at the Air Canada Centre.
The first three nights of NHL playoffs has featured some exciting finishes, many of which needed overtime. Expect much of the same on Saturday with a handful of mouth-watering matchups, including the Chicago Blackhawks taking on the Nashville Predators.
Goals have been easy to come by for many teams this season, however with playoff and home-ice advantage of the line, expect things to tighten up down the stretch. Not so much when the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks lock horns on Thursday night, in what is sure to be a high-scoring affair.
The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators will duke it out on Saturday with first place in the Atlantic Division on the line. In other action, the Washington Capitals travel to Tampa Bay to face the surging Bolts.
Every point counts at this stage of the NHL season, which is why the Flames need to win on the road in Tampa Bay to stay in the thick of the post-season race. In other action, the Maple Leafs will host the red-hot Rangers at Air Canada Centre on Thursday night.
