For the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons, the task is simple - win and they are in the NFL playoffs. For other teams, such as the Buffalo Bills, L.A. Chargers and Seattle Seahawks, they are still playoff eligible, but destiny is not in their hands. They must win their final game of the season, and then hope for a series of circumstances to unfold to get to the dance.

NFL Playoff Picks: Buffalo Bills at Jaguars Point Spread
Article posted on Saturday 06 January - 06:07 EST
A lot can happen in 18 years, and certainly much has evolved in the football world since 1999, the last season that the Buffalo Bills earned a place in the NFL postseason. In fact it was so long ago that Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith, heroes of Buffalo's four straight Super Bowl appearances in the early 1990s, were still part of the club's roster in 1999.
Like a giant boulder steamrolling down the side of a hill, the New Orleans Saints just keep picking up steam, and steamrolling everyone and everything in their path. Up next, a road test against NFC-West leading L.A. Rams. This will be another measure of the Saints' ability to overcome a challenge, but no one's stopped them yet, so betting against them would be a unwise choice to make.
Don't look now, but those are the Buffalo Bills right there in the midst of playoff contention. It's been a long time since you could say that. The drought goes all the way back to 1999. No NFL team has gone longer without a taste of the postseason than the Bills. But with a win Thursday over the New York Jets, they will top the AFC East standings.
