Premier League Picks Week 19
Will Chelsea Get Stuck at the Toffees’ Ground?
Manchester City go into their home tie against Bournemouth 11-points clear at the top of the Premier League and looking unstoppable. Sixteen consecutive victories has set a new record and win number 17 in a row looks likely this weekend.
Bovada price a City win over Bournemouth at -1100. The visitors are priced at +2200 with the draw coming in at +1000. It does not take a genius to realize that the bookmakers think this will be an easy win for City on home soil. City smashed The Cherries 4-0 at home last season and 5-1 the season before. Do not be surprised to see a similar result this time around.
You can back City to win with a -2.5 spread at -135 and this looks like decent value. As for correct scores, 3-0 comes in at +700 and 4-0 is +800.
Bournemouth almost held City when they were the home side, but an injury time goal claimed all three points for City. The scoreline only tell part of the story because City had 70.2 percent of the possession and were much the better team throughout. Expect a City win and nothing else.
Will Chelsea Get Stuck at the Toffees’ Ground?
An intriguing fixture takes place at Goodison Park where Everton entertain Chelsea on Saturday. Everton looked like a team destined for a relegation battle when they only picked up five points from a possible 42, but since the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager, Everton are unbeaten in five league games and have climbed to ninth in the Premier League table.
Everton had been leaking goals at an alarming rate until Allardyce took charge. The much-travelled manager is a defensive expert and he has marshalled his defense who have now only conceded twice in five games. Despite their recent good form, Everton will start the game against Chelsea at +500 outsiders. Backing the draw will get you odds of +280 while an away win for Chelsea is available at -165. This is partly because Chelsea are second in the away table form, only behind runaway leaders Manchester City, with six wins, a draw and two defeats from nine games.
Chelsea have scored 18 goals and conceded seven during this time. Bovada think a 1-1 draw is as likely as a 2-0 Chelsea win with both options priced at +650. The most likely score is a 1-0 Chelsea win at +575. If you’re looking at goalscorers, look no further than Alvaro Morata of Chelsea. The Spaniard scored in Chelsea’s 2-1 EFL Cup win at home to Bournemouth and looks a class act in front of goal. In a game that may not see many chances created, Morata’s exceptional finishing could be the difference between the sides; back Morata to score at any time at -115.
Gunners Entertain Liverpool
Perhaps the most exciting game of the weekend sees Arsenal invite Liverpool to North London.
Arsenal have been superb on home soil with eight wins and one defeat from nine games, during which time they have scored 22 goals and conceded seven. Liverpool are fourth in the away table with five wins, two draws and two losses from their nine games. Liverpool away games are highly entertaining with them scoring 24 goals and letting in 17; the latter being the third worst defense on the road. Over 2.5 goals looks the way to go in this game.
Look for odds of around -195 for this market. Over 3.5 goals should be in the region of +135. Consider this game last season ended 4-3 to Liverpool and in the previous five encounters there have been 21 goals scored and that includes a freak 0-0 draw.
Bookmakers cannot separate these two teams and the odds reflect this. Arsenal are around +140, Liverpool +180 and the draw is +250. This game could be settled by a moment of brilliance from one of the magical players on the pitch. Mezut Ozil is one such player and he has been in tremendous form of late. Look to back him to score during the 90-minutes at odds of +225.
